Chart 2a: Bank of Canada's Business Outlook Survey Indicator
This chart shows the Bank of Canada's Business Outlook Survey Indicator, beginning in the first quarter of 2015. After troughing in negative territory at the end of 2015, this indicator turned positive at the end of 2016, and since then, has trended higher. Since peaking in the second quarter of 2018, this indicator has moderated, but it nonetheless remains firmly positive.
Chart 2b: Change in Foreign Direct Investment Inflows as a Share of GDP (year-to-date, 2018)
This chart shows the change in inward foreign direct Investment (FDI) flows as a share of GDP for year-to-date data for 2018 compared to the same period one year earlier for all G7 countries. Canada is the only G7 country to realize a material improvement in this measure over this period.
